Market Segments
Probably the most important factor in beginning and operating a service, determining our target market is crucial. We need to know who will use our service on both ends. Luckily, our service is based on providing a solution to two specific markets in mind, which makes targeting the markets relatively easy. First, we base our targeting strategies on demographic segmentation. Since we know that we are providing a service for land/building owners and architects, our demographic segmentation has already been determined. Next, we would divide our market by geographic segmentation.
Since this idea has the potential to extend worldwide, a strong base will need to be established. Our plan is to reach out to the Landscape Area first, followed shortly by the rest of the world. In order to accomplish this feat, we will begin by surveying 50-1000 architectural firms around our region to determine if the service is something they would be interested in participating in. We would also survey 30-50 land development companies and private owners to obtain their interests. There is some concern that these surveys will turn up little interest and our idea may not be something to follow through on. If this is the case, hopefully we can learn from our research what the parties are interested in seeing, and possibly build on a new idea. But for this plan, one should assume that the presented idea would receive good reactions.
For the Architects:
Some requirements will need to be established to determine which projects they can compete for. As stated earlier, this service will allow an opportunity for young and talented designers to compete for projects with larger, more established firms. But this will not always be the case. For example, a young designer does not have the expertise and knowledge to compete for, say, a football stadium. The participant firms in some cases may have first to be pre-qualified (if required by our client) to compete for certain projects.
In some other cases the competition will be based just in an idea proposal and the project can be further developed by a major firm. The architects would have a timeline to produce schematic drawings for the related projects. Depending on the scope of work and the budget, an architect would have between one and two months to submit their proposals to the competition. Keep in mind that our architect subscribers would be able to compete for any and all projects they meet the requirements for. After the deadline, projects will be reviewed (by a jury chosen either by the client or our company) to determine the winner.
